Surname: DOERING, WARTMAN, REIFSCHNEIDER
-------------------------
An update to information on JOSEPH DOERING (DERING) who went to Casstown,
OH (Miami Co.) after the death of his brother-in-law, GEORGE WARTMAN in
1837. JOSEPH DOERING was born to JACOB and CATHERINE(EKELMAN)DERING in
1789 and was baptized at Falkner Swamp Reformed Church, in New Hanover
Township, Montgomery Co., PA. His father died in 1793 at the age of 30.
GEORGE WARTMAN was born on Nov. 29, 1793 and baptized at New Hanover Lutheran
Church in New Hanover Township, Montgomery Co., PA. In 1823, GEORGE WARTMAN
married HANNAH REIFSCHNEIDER. Her father, SEBASTIAN REIFSCHNEIDER, lost
his first wife in 1793 and subsequently married CATHERINE EKELMAN (also
spelled ECKELMAN). HANNAH and her sisters LIDIA and SUSANNA were the children
of this marriage. Thus, JOSEPH DOERING and GEORGE WARTMAN were brothers-in-law.
Many of Doering's descendants migrated from Miami Co. to Paulding Co.,
Ohio.
I believe the JOSEPH DOERING buried in the Casstown Cemetery is our Lutheran
minister. He lived in Miami County, from 1838 until his death in 1843 (?
on tombstone date) He was supposed to have moved into this area to be with
a brother--perhaps a Reifschneider? Any help on his activities during this
time would be appreciated.
