I noticed the JAMES surname in your subject line for Adams Co. I have a
William and Mariah James in Adams Co., from pre 1860 to pre 1900. They died
in 1901 in Scioto Co Ohio. They had children: Henry, James, Isaac, Jacob (my
ggf) and Caroline. Any connection?

I am wondering if we might have a connection. my great grandfather Sandford
Nichols ( 1872-1918) is buried in Friendship Cemetery near Portsmouth, as is
his wife Laura Ann Cooper (1877-1933) Their daughter, Latha (Letha)
Elizabeth Nichols was my grandmother. I don't have anything on the Cooper
line, other than that Tom Cooper was the father of Laura Ann Cooper. There
have been some suggestions by family members that the Cooper's may have been
Indian. I have no proof. I have not found any census data on any of these
relations. I think they avoided the census people!
