Hey Linda,
On Nancy Mullis and John Newman's marriage certificate it is Mullis. I got out my magnifying glass to make sure. I think this is one of those names that will be misspelled every once in a while, which drives me up a wall. Everyone was telling me it as Muller.
There is a Mullis family member who thinks her father is Richard Mullis born in Adams County 1775 with wife Nancy. And other children Foster, Caroline and Elizabeth. I need to look that up on the census. He died March 21, 1864 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Foster Mullis is the right age, but Nancy's grave stone says she was born on Virginia. I was at Sandy Springs in 2003 for my first genealogy trip. John and Nancy's stones were the last ones I saw. I was getting sick from my suger, but didn't know it till I got home the next day. I got some pictures, but I need to go back for so much more.
While I was there in the health dept. I found my own birth cert. I was told by mother it was Scioto County. It was an easy mistake as the hill I was born on is on the border.
I all most forgot, Scott sent me this:
Scioto Co. Ohio Marriage Records lists a Foster Mullins attending his sisters wedding to James Bowman November 15th1834. His sisters name is Elizabeth Mollies Mullins. Father was Richard Mullis born about 1775. So you see the Mullins spelling is here to.
