My g-g-grandfather AARON SMITH
left Allen Co. in 1865 for the gold fields
of California. Has anyone researching
other areas of Allen Co. history ever
found any notice of OTHER
Allen Co. men who headed west??
Or was AARON a loner on his
trek westward??
And WHY did he wait till '65 to
head west...."gold fever" was nearly
over by then!!
By the way, he never
came back.....he was found dead on
his claim....a victim we surmise of
robbers, stealing what little gold he
may have already found. His body was
brought back to Ohio and was buried
at the cemetery in Lafayette.
Any comments or clues from Allen Co.
