In the 1880 census at Lima, Allen Co., OH I have 2 full households of relatives that are all shown as working in the FLAX MILL there.

Does anyone know about these Flax Mills? I know from my research in Northern Ireland, that Flax is what is grown to make LINEN cloth.

Is that what this is also? Was Lima a Linen cloth producing area?
My family started out as German immigrants to Erie, PA, but then arrived in Lima, OH as of 1865 or so. We have always wondered what brought them to Lima, and apparently it was to work in the Flax mill.

Anyinfo about the Flax Mills of Lima is greatly appreciated.
Family names are: Miller, Giberson, Northrup.
