Last year I requested a look up for Superior Court records and/or transcripts. I was told that the record book for the Superior Court dockets was misplaced or missing. The first trial, The State of Ohio vs. James F. Smith, was held in mid-April 1878, after Mr. Smith's lawyer petitioned and received a change of venue from Auglaise Co. to Allen Co., according to newspaper accounts. It resulted in a hung jury and "the case was set down for trial at our next term". I do not have the time span between trials. I was told by a researcher at the Lima Library that there were 2 more trials and he was eventually acquitted. I would like to have copies of all three trial transcripts and the newspaper articles published regarding the last two trials. Would someone be willing to go to the court house to see if the book of Superior Court dockets has been found? Any help someone could give me will be greatly appreciated. You may contact me at Thank you.
