Subject: [OHASHLAN-L] Stover and Morr

There were at least two Stovers who married Shrefflers (Schrefflers) in
Pennsylvania.
The Shrefflers also lived in Haines township in Northumberland County, Pa.
John
Stover (sometimes Stoever) was a minister. There may have been other Stovers
who were ministers. I am wondering if the Morr may have also been spelled
Mohr
on the early ships to Philadelphia.
We have the Shreffler family back to 1749 at Philadelphia. Those of you
interested
in Stover might want to contact my Shreffler researcher.
The Shreffler family lived in the Philadelphia area (Germantown, in
Montgomery County, PA) in the 1750s and maybe 1760s. The original immigrant
(Johannes Heinrich Schreffler or Shreffler, was a weaver (stockings,
coverlets, etc.). His will
is dated 1783 at Reading, PA. He owned a house there.
Now, there was a Stover who was the minister who officiated some of the early
weddings in PA. (1740s). The ship lists on Rootsweb are helpful, but Donna
Ristenbatt's ship list is great. Ken McCrea's ship passenger list has some
ships
that are not on the other two.
Some of the early settlers of Wayne County came through Pennsylvania and lived
in Berks County (Reading, PA), then Union and Center, Schuylkill,
Northumberland, etc. All of these are in PA. The next county for the
SHREFFLERs was Venango County, PA. So other Ashland families probably came
through there as well.
The next move seems to be Wood and Sandusky Counties in Ohio. Then when
Illinois was open to settlement (around 1840) some of the families bought land
patents in Illinois.
Cyndy Shreffler (Troy, Ohio) (married to Steve Shreffler, Ashland High School
class
of 1964) ()
