Hello list,

I am new to this list and wondering if anyone is researching early
[pre-1830's] Ashland families from Hayesville?

Based on a small family history written by 2 elderly family members a
few years ago I went looking for a Zeruah JOHNSON, supposed to have been
born & married in Indiana [no dates but clearly 1850-70ish] no parents
names are given but several brothers are named.
I believe I've found a JOHNSON family I am looking for [they are on the
1850 census in Indiana, as born in Ohio with many women & girls named
Zeruah]. Based on the census material I was able to find an IGI with
very spec. birth dates which line up with the census material and give
birth place as Hayesville, Ashland Co., Ohio; and on the Ohio archives
page I found a cemetery [Bushnell] which includes some of the JOHNSON
family [I believe]. Another cemetery includes an allied name, DRAGGOO,
found on the Indiana census.

The Indiana census notes that the 'matriarch' of the family, Zeruah
Johnson, was born ca. at NJ... she is living with a married dau. Zeruah
DRAGGOO... no Johnson patriarch... The IGI names her Zeruah VAN GUILER
and names her husband Uriah JOHNSON and a Uriah, age 70y, is buried 1849
at Bushnell Cemetery, Vermillion Twp., Ashland Co., Ohio... also there
is [at least] one of the children noted on the IGI, "Isaac s/o U. & Z.
died 1821 age 4y 7m." Can anyone tell me if VR is available for
Hayesville? if not might anyone know what the source of the IGI dates
may have been? a JOHNSON Bible perhaps, or????

Further I suspect that the John VANGILDER & his wife Lydia, buried at
the Bushnell cem. may well be related to Zeruah.

I'm new at Ohio genealogy and wondering if some kind person might give
me a few pointers? I don't really 'trust' the IGI material in that it
appears not to be transcripts of actual VR [but rather an indiv.
submission of family names]. It may well be perfectly true, and in fact
seems to be based on the other sources, but I need to prove that to be
the case. Any suggestions would be very gratefully appreciated! Thank
you very much!
April
