Marge,

There was a Henry Homan who enlisted in Company I, 102nd Ohio Infantry at
Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio on 5 August 1862 at age 18. He was mustered out
30 June 1865. The 102nd Ohio Infantry served as railroad guards along the
Louisville and Nashville RR and later the Nashville and Chattanooga RR.
These roads were the rail roads that supported the Union advance onto
Atlanta and were subject to raids. More than 100 were captured at Athens,
Alabama on 24 September 1864 by Nathan Bedford Forrest. The men were sent
to prison at Cahaba, Alabama and were on the Sultana when it sank on 27
April 1865 with a loss of 1500+.

Henry Homan moved to Canton, Stark County, Ohio where he died in 1931(1
April 1931). He is buried in the West Lawn Cemetery in Canton. He is listed
as Henry Horman in the Roster of OhioTroops, 1861-1865 Vol. Vii., but the
pension and census records list him as Henry Homan.

We are working on the soldiers of the 102nd Ohio Infantry and thought you
might like the information.
