Sandra,
Is there a published list of Athens County's first families? My
husband is a descendant of William GORSLINE, and I THINK his line is
through William's son, James, but I'm not absolutely certain. Hubby's
ggrandmother was Sarah Elizabeth ATKINS, daughter of Isaac ATKINS and
Susan Emeline GORSLINE, of Meigs County.
I believe Susan was a daughter of James M. GORSLINE, who was
mayor of
Athens during the 1860's, but have no will of his, to prove the theory.
She did inherit 40 sheep and a mare colt from the estate of Homer N.
GORSLINE, IN 1858. If census data is correct, Susan was 15 when she and
Isaac married in 1838, and I would suspect that was against her family's
wishes.
I guess my question would be: Are there any baptismal records
which
might indicate who Susan Emeline GORSLINE's parents were? Or are there
possibly other members of FFAC who are also descended from William
GORSLINE, who may have already researched the family, and have this
info?
Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shine on this
mystery.
