Do you have coal miner ancestors that worked in
Murray City, Ohio before moving on with the coal
companies? Murray City was a huge coal mine boom
town from 1873-1930. Many people from Hungary,
Poland, Germany, England and Ireland mined coal
in Murray City in 1900. I have compiled several
books about Murray City and have lots and lots of
pictures. The books have info Such as Murray
City Cemetery Transcriptions, Salem Hollow
Cemetery Transcriptions, Obituaries and Related
Genealogies, Murray City Coal Mine Rent book,
Descendants of Emily Allen Skinner Spurgeon, List
of Soldiers of WWI, WWII, and much more
historical info. I have copies of the Murray City
Merchant's Directory 1907, Murray City 1900
Census, 1924, 1947, 1957 and 1960 Murray City
yearbooks. Also did you know there is a video
about Murray City? At the end of the video is
some actual footage of the 1930's showing coal
miners coming out of the mines, and children
coming out of the schools, and also the Main
street of town. Please e-mail me if any of this
information is of interest to you! We are trying
to start a historical society and restore the
train depot there.
