Hi Carolyn;

Athens is a beautiful town - I hope you enjoy your visit.

Be sure to go by the Athens County Historical Society & Museum. It is
located on Court Street (the 'main drag' of downtown Athens). It's open
from 1-4 Monday through Friday, and by appointment at other times. It's run
by a wonderful, helpful group of folks. Here is the web site with their
information: http://www.frognet.net/~achsm

The web site also has information on what is in the library there, as well
as their publications. My guess is that your 'West State' cemetery is
really the 'West State Street Cemetery'. There is a west state street in
town, so I'm guessing that's where it is. At any rate, there is a
publication by the historical society that has information on that
cemetery - see the bookstore on the site.

Also, Athens is the home of Ohio University, and the main library there
(Alden Library) has a great reigonal genealogical collection. Here is the
genealogical page of the special archives web site:
http://www.library.ohiou.edu/libinfo/depts/microforms/geneal.htm The
special archives are open 8-5 M-F and 12-4 on Saturday. I've only been
there a few times, but the staff has been quite helpful.

If you get into town and still don't have a map, head over to State Street
(there's an exit from the highway there.) They have a building there with
visitor information, including maps. When last I was there (a few years
ago) there were signs from the highway to the building labeled 'Visitor
Information', or 'Tourist Information'.

Also, check out the Athens County USGenWeb site at

Hope this helps.

Stacy
