Hello Christy,
I believe we're related... your Mary was my 3rd Great-Grandmother Mary A.
(BRISTOL) PERRY, the widow of Emory John PERRY. Emory was the son of John &
Rhoda PERRY of Tazewell Co., VA. I believe they had atleast 7 children: Emory
John, Caroline, Alfred, Ezra, Louisa, Melissa, and Ammon (all born Ohio.) I
also believe that their father John PERRY born 26 Feb 1801 Tazewell Co., VA -
died 17 Mar 1849 Athens Co.,OH buried Perry Cem. in Waterloo Twp., Athens.
John was son of John PEERY (1762-1844) and Deborah KIDD (1768-183, d/o Wm.
KIDD). After John PERRY's death, Rhoda 2nd married 22 May 1851 Athens Co.,OH
to James W. SMITH, he also a widow with children.
I will send more information on Emory's ancestors but below is his wife
Mary's information.
Here is a brief outline of the information on her death certificate.
Death Certificate in Athens Co.,OH - Volume #7760, Certificate #14370.
Mary A. PERRY Widow, White Female, Occupation: Housekeeper
Born 1848 Ireland
Died March 24, 1935, Nelsonville, Athens Co., OH. Aged 87 yrs.
Father: Morris BRESCHNERU (or Breschnere <-either ending U or RE)
Mother: Bridget WAGNER
Buried at Logan, Hocking Co., OH
Informant (son) Thomas PERRY
Cause of Death: "ignited accidental"
Description: Burned to death; body badly charred.
As for Mary's maidename, I can't tell you 100% because it seems in almost
every record I find she lists a different spelling of her maidename. See
below:
Mary BRISTOL [per a book of Ship Logs, however due to sloppy handwritting
her maidename could have been BRISCOE or BRISCOL]
Mary BOOKMAN married 12 Mar 1863 Emery PERRY [per Marriage Record in Vol. 4
- pg. 269] [*Note also found her name listed as Mary BOSHMAN marrying Emery
PERRY in another transcription]
Mary BRISTOL [per son James' Birth Record]
Mary BRESKE [per son Joseph's Birth Record]
Mary A. BRESHEN [per son Morris' Funeral Record]
Mary BRADCOMB [per son John's Funeral Record]
Mary BRESNAN [per dau. Bridget's Funeral Record]
Mary BURMAHAN [per son Dennis' Funeral Record]
Mary A. (BRESCHNERU) PERRY [per Death Cert.; however due to messy writing
the ending of maidename could have been either U or RE; BRESCHNERE ?)
My Grandma is going to Ireland next Friday for 3 weeks and is going to
try to find Mary's birth record and more information on her family's
immigration. I know that Mary's family went from Ireland to Liverpool,
England then they sailed on the 'William Jarvis' boat in April 1849 for New
York, USA.
The boat log listed the BRISTOL* family :
(husband) James 35 Laborer IRELAND
(wife) Mary 33 Dressmaker IRELAND
(daughter) Mary 4 Child IRELAND
(daughter) Catherine 2 Child IRELAND
*BRISTOL could be BRISCOE or BRISCOL.
I haven't been able to locate them on the 1850 Census. I figured they may
have been in New York and then sometime left for Ohio by 1863 for Mary to
marry Emery PERRY. I have not been able to find any records of her sister
Catherine or her parents, other than the parents being listed on Mary's death
cert.
If you by chance know where Mary might have been from in Ireland...
please email asap because my Grandma is going to Ireland next Friday. All we
could find out was that Mary was "Irish" and spoke "Gaelic" but we don't know
what part of Ireland.
I will send more info. in another email... until next time... Keep
Diggin' Debby
