List Members,

The problems with the digest are usually the fact that when people reply to
a previous message, they do not usually edit out any unneeded
information. In the last digest containing the name change messages,
several of the messages included the footers from 3 previous messages (You
all do know what the footers are, don't you?) When a digest is sent out
all information from each individual reply is included. If the unneeded
information is not edited out, it creates a lot of scrolling through these
messages for the digest recipient.

It would be very beneficial for all list subscribers to follow a few simple
rules when posting or replying to list messages:

1. Please use a descriptive subject line. Avoid using the words, "Help"
or "Need Info". Be as descriptive as possible. List the place and/or name
you are looking for as well as the dates or time period involved.
2. When replying to a message, please delete the unneeded portion of the
message (Footers! especially). If the message was a long one, edit out
everything but the portion you are responding to. Besides making this more
efficient for digest users, it also makes using the archives easier.
3. We have not had too many problems about non-genealogy posts on this
list, so let's keep it this way. If you need to thank some one for
something, please do so in personal email.
