I would suggest trying the County Web Site. Their URL appears at the bottom
of every message on this list and has a link to a number
of people who will do lookups.

Another good source for obituaries, usually, is the reference librarian in
whatever town or vicinity the person lived.

Most, if not all, counties in the U.S. have their own web page through
USGenWeb. All are manned by volunteers and the extent and selection of
information varies widely from one to another.
