Gideon Harper
Gideon Harper's second to the oldest son of Mordecai and Margaret
(Jackson) Harper was
born in Pennsylvania near Fayette County on April 1, 1808.
As a young boy he lived in the Rostraver Township area of Westmoreland
County Pennsylvania with his parent's,
Than several year's later the family moved west into Cadiz, Ohio.
After several more year's the Harper family moved to the Somerset
Township area of Belmont County, Ohio where they remained.
(The Harper family was listed in Pa.) In 1810,
Then in 1820 they were living in Cadiz Ohio.
Before 1820 around 1818 the family moved to Belmont County Ohio.)
Sometime around 1828 Gideon Harper married Rhoda.
To this marriage the following children were born: St. Clair, Sarah E.,
Mordecai, Jesse James, Margaret Ann, John Marion, Matilda and Elizabeth.
Rhoda, Gideon's first wife was born January 22, 1809 and died December
29, 1851. She died in the Meigs Township Morgan County, Ohio area at the
age of 42 year's old 11 month's and 7 day's. Rhoda is buried in Meigs
cemetery in Morgan Co. Ohio.
Gideon then married Lydia (HOSSOM) Welch on August 14, 1856 in Morgan
County, Ohio. Lydia was born in 1823 in Ohio.
To the marriage of Gideon and Lydia was born two children Andrew and
Carrolton.
