Subject: [OHBELMON-L] Family of Emily Moore
Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 10:24:51 -0500
I am looking for information on the family of Emily Moore, born in
Flushing Township, Belmont County and probably a daughter of James Moore
who was born in Virginia c. 1794. According to county death records and
her tombstone, Emily was born 14 December 1818, but her brother's family
bible says 30 June 1819. The family consisted of the following:
1) John Peter Moore, b. 26 September 1817 m. Cynthia A. Huffman 28
September 1840. Moved to Washington County, Iowa c. 1854
2) Emily Moore, b. 14 December 1818 m. James Vanfossen 19 May 1838 d.
7 March 1883 She and James had three known children: George, c. 1839,
Elizabeth, c. 1841 and Mary A., c. 1843
3) Mary Ann Moore, b. 23 January 1821
4) Henry Moore, b. 22 June 1822
5) Hannah Moore, b. 23 February 1825
6) Sarah Moore, b. 16 December 1826
7) Elizabeth Moore, b. 6 February 182? [Could not be 1827. Must be
either 1828 or 29.]
8) Nancy Moore, b. 8 March 1831
That is the sum total of ten years' looking into this family. I would
really appreciate hearing from anyone who can expand my knowledge of
this line of Moores. Who were the parents? What became of the six
youngest children? Did any of them die young? If not, who did they
marry? Did they stay in Belmont County or migrate elsewhere? There are
so many Moores in Belmont County I have never had much luck
distinguishing this line from all the others. Are there any other
descendants of Emily and James out there?
I descend from her daughter Mary. Her son George married Rachel Amanda
Rosius and had six children: Emily, Cora, Oliver, Elizabeth, Amanda and
Bertha. Elizabeth married James L. Hall and had at least two children,
James and Ellwood.
