Hi all,
I'm new to the mailing lists and my only connection to Belmont co., is that
my Asa Davis married a Sarah Dillee there in 1804 before moving to Hardin
co., IL. Asa was the son of Daniel Davis, a pioneer of Marietta, Washington
co., OH.
I would like to connect with anyone interested in this family or allied
families.

Washington co., OH, daughter of COGGESHALL OLNEY and SARAH SCOTT. She was
born September 30, 1784 in Marietta, OH, and died January 10, 1803 in
Washington co., OH. He married (2) SARAH SALLY DILLEE2 September 06, 1804
in Belmont co., OH2. She was born July 19, 1785 in Belmont co., OH (VA?),
and died February 27, 1841 in McFarlan, Hardin co., Illinois.

STEVENS-FOSTER
Horace Foster, son of Asa and Polly Foster, was born Jan. 8, 1811 in the
Bassett Community, near Elizabethtown. Asa was born in VA. and came to the
Shawnee Forest area from Montgomery Co. Ky. in the early 1800's.
Horace married Phoeba Davis Oct.2, 1827. She was born in North Carolina,
May 1, 1808. Their children were Asa, Aug. 21, 1828, Horace Jr., Nov. 18,
1829, Lyman, Mar. 23, 1833 and Mary Jane. Phoeba died, age 26 years.
Horace married Phoeba's sister, Mary "Polly" Jane Davis, Dec. 1, 1834.
Horace Foster died in 1847, age 35 years.
Horace Jr. married Dec. 9, 1849 to Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Hobbs,,,, born
February 16 1835 in Cape Girardeau Co., MO., daughter of William Christopher
"Kit" and Elizabeth Cassinger Hobbs. Kit, the son of Jefferson Hobbs, and
Elizabeth, daughter of Solomon Cassinger, were married July 15, 1830 in Pope
Co. Betsy was raised in Hardin Co. then Pope Co, by riverboat Capt Isaac
and Anna Pierce Hobbs. Betsey and dark eyes and hair.
Horace and Betsey raised eight of their twelve children to maturity. Thomas
Jefferson, Sept. 28, 1856 - May 26, 1930; John William, Oct. 8, 1859 -
Oct 7, 1930; Isaac "Elijah"Abram, Oct 4, 1862 - Dec, 1, 1926; Susa Ann,
Feb. 12, 1864 - Apr. 25, 1902; Hannah Etta, Apr 10, 1867 - Mar, 15,
1952; Julia Ann, Oct. 22, 1868 - May 15, 1950; Mary Alice, Sept. 1,
1871 -Nov 15, 1935; Joseph Alexander, May 4, 1875 - Sept 5, 1912.
Horace Jr. was a cooper and farmer. He had blue eyes and white blond curly
hair. On Sept. 14, 1863 he was ordained a minister of the Christian Church.
He died at the home of his son, Dr. Isaac Foster, Dec. 1, 1915, age 86
years, Betsey, wove carpets, blankets and cloth, which she sold in the
community. She died in Carmi, Jan. 21, 1923 , age 87 years. The Foster's
are buried at Emma, in White Co.
In Elizabethtown on Feb. 12, 1882, Susa Ann Foster married James "Jim"
Edward Stevens, born Apr. 1862 in KY. to Dr. George William and Elizabeth
Lipscomb Stevens. Their children were Mary Ann, Apr. 1883, Delores
Isabelle, 1885, Lilly May, Sept. 1887, George Horace, Feb. 24,1889, Charles
Edward, Feb. 15, 1890, John Robert, 1892, Etta Margaret, Jan. 1894,
Austin Willard, Dec. 21, 1895, Fred Woodrow, June 1898, and Edna Cordelia,
Apr 1902. Susa Foster Stevens died Apr. 25, 1902, age 38 years.
Dr. George Stevens moved his family from KY. to Raleigh in Saline Co.,
about 1880, laater moving to Beavers Creek in Bowlesville Township, Gallatin
Co., and then to Tucker Hill near Cave-in-Rock.
Dr. Stevens was born Jan. 1, 1838 in KY and died June 1896, near his home
in Hardin Co. He was shot from ambush in Blind Hollow, after a scandalous
divorce from his wife, involving another woman, Lucinda Needham, who he
lived with and then married. Dr. Stevens served in the Civil War and a
memorial headstone marks the grave in Adams Cemetery, Rock Creek Community.
Note: Anna Pierce Hobbs, after Capt Hobbs died, married Eson Bigsby. Betsey
always referred to her as "granny'. The Foster children called her
grandmother. --Submitted by Charlene Rainwater, great granddaughter of Susa
Foster Stevens and granddaughter of Charles Edward Stevens.
