According to the 1850 Census for Somerset Township, Belmont Co. OH, Isaac Wilson was born abt. 1769. I believe he was born in PA, but I have no proof. The 1790 Census for Bedford County, PA for Bedford and St. Clair Townships shows a Caleb Wilson (possibly Isaac's father, a William Wilson of the same age and two younger Wilsons, Nicholas and Caleb.)

On 29 Dec 1794, he married Susannah Thornberry in Martinsburg, VA (this is now part of WV). I do not have confirmation on this marriage, but have received the date from another researcher. Susannah was also born about 1769, according to 1850 Census records.

Census records of the family show that their first five children were born in PA. An LDS record for daughter Elizabeth says Cove Mountain, Bedford, PA..

Isaac's will, probated March 20, 1837 in Belmont Co, OH names his children: Caleb, William, Josiah, Joseph, Elizabeth Wilson Barnes, Lydia Wilson Outland and Mary Wilson Outland. According to the History of Belmont and Jefferson Counties by Caldwell, published in 1888, the Wilson family came to Belmont County in 1814 and located about a mile from Barnesville. Caldwell's history gives the date of death for Isaac as 9th of Mar 1837 "in his 68th year", and for Susannah the 15th of Nov 1836 "in the 67th year of her age".

Isaac purchased 320 acres of land in four separate parcels on 15 Jul 1825 and another 65 acres on 16 April 1833. All the land was in Belmont County.

Isaac and Susannah's children were:

Caleb Wilson born about 1795 in PA. On 28 May 1815, he married Sarah Mills in Belmont Co. I do not know the names of Caleb and Sarah's children except Avery who was born about 1819 and married Sara Ann Hayes. The 1850 Census shows a Caleb Wilson with a much younger wife, Catherine, born in Delaware and the following children: Ann M, age 13; Cindarilla, age 11; Mary E., age 6; James M., age 9; Victoria, age 4; and Martha, age 8 months. All the children were born in OH. If this is the same family, it would indicate that Sarah died some time after 1840 and Caleb remarried. I don't know how many of these children were Sarah's and how many Catherine's. From the 1840 Census, I do know that Caleb and Sarah had six children, including 3 boys and 3 girls.

If the information on his tombstone is correct, Isaac & Susannah's second son, William Wilson was born in Sept 1801. On 21 April 1825, William married Eleanor Philpot, daughter of William Philpot and Ruth Hulse of Barnesville. I have found a 1830 Census record for a William Wilson who seems to be the right age and in the right place, but I can not confirm that this is Isaac and Susannah's William. A reference in a deed selling land from Isaac Wilson's will refers to "William Wilson and wife Elener, of Monroe County, OH". According to the LDS Ancestral File, William and Eleanor had at least one child, Erasmus born 7 Nov 1842 in Summerfield, Noble Co., OH. Eleanor's family had settled in Summerfield after they left Barnesville. Eleanor died on 4 Jul 1847 and is buried at the Summerfield Methodist Cemetery in Marion Township, Noble Co., OH (Nobel Co. was formed in 1851 from a part of Monroe Co.)

In the 1850 Census, William appears in Union Township, Monroe County, with a new wife, Christina Ann (Moore), 33 and the children from his marriage to Eleanor: James, Joseph, Charles W. Mariah, William P., Erasmus and Ruth Ann.

Isaac and Susannah's third child, Elizabeth Wilson, has a biographical entry in Caldwell's History of Belmont and Jefferson Counties. From this source comes the birth date of 10 Feb 1800 and the place, Cove Mountain, Bedford Co., PA. Elizabeth and Abel Barnes (son of Abel, son of David, and nephew of James Barnes, founder of Barnesville) were married 20 Mar 1817 in Belmont Co., OH. Their children were: William, Susannah D., Mary Ann, James, A., Eleanor, Lydia, Milton, Marcella, Ruth M., Josiah, Elizabeth, Abel C. and Peter F. (also referred to in one source as Frank P.)

Isaac and Susannah's daughter Lydia Wilson, born about 1804, married Josiah Outland, son of William Outland and Margaret Peele. This family is listed in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Census for Somerset Township, Belmont Co. OH (I love people who stay in one place!) Their children were William. b. 1826, Susanna b. about 1833, Margarett b. abt 1835, Lydia, b. abt 1837 and Rebecca b. abt 1842.

My husband's line comes from Isaac and Susannah's son, Josiah Wilson who was b. 1807 in PA. On 19 April 1838, he married in Belmont Co. Phebe Durnal, daughter of Samuel Durnal and Rebecca Hall. Josiah and Phebe moved to Portersville in Perry County, OH some time prior to 1850 and are listed in the 1850 Census with six of their nine children including Shannon, John W., Harriet E., Rebecca, Ann M. and Delila. One other son, Miley, is mentioned by name in a letter written by Josiah in 1854. In a letter written in 1926, Miley mentions two brothers, Will and Steve. Phebe died at age 37. My husband's ancestor, John Wesley Wilson, was b. Sept 1840 in OH and married 27 Feb 1866 to Caroline Virginia Atkinson, dau of George B. Atkinson and Sarah Evans, also of Belmont Co.

The final child of Isaac and Susannah was Mary Wilson who married on 23 Mar 1826 Josiah's brother, William Outland. They had several children, but the only one on whom I have information is William Outland b. 16 Jun 1826 and married Rebecca Bailey.
