I've found that honey gets more results than vinegar, and "reminding" folks
of their "duty", so to speak, seems a sure way to get your letter "lost". I
always send a "chatty" letter, with effuse thanks for their helping someone
not of the area. I've added that when I get to visit the area personally I
hope to get in and thank them in person for their help.......I check for the
names of the individuals that send the responses, and call them by name the
next time I write with a request........several times I've send letters of
praise to folks bosses, and even, on a couple of occasions send homemade
candy at Christmas to probate workers (although this probably wouldn't be a
good idea today)....regardless, this sort of thing has gotten me GREAT
service. It may not work every time, but it's well worth the try!

Sometimes county workers/offices forget that the information available
through them is available to the people and doesn't belong to them. They
are simply employees, but sometimes they think that they "own" them and
they are there simply to be of service. One should not have to beg them
for the information. Remind them that they are public servants. Ed
