Shirley,
Thank you very much for posting those lists. I think that I found something
very interesting. The lists for Union Township for 1813 and 1814 show John
Willey (Wiley) as the owner of the SE qtr of R5 T8 S29 (new entry for 1813). John
Wiley was my gg grandfather and this is the property that he owned until his
death in 1864. After his name is listed: (Capt.) I am assuming that this
indicated the military rank of Captain. Since he was born in 1788, this would have
to be the War of 1812. Would you read it the same way?
Another thing that puzzles me is that his father-in-law, Samuel McWilliams,
is shown as the entryman for this property in 1807. Samuel McWilliams
transferred this property to John Wiley by deed in 1819. Can anyone explain the
discrepancy in dates?
