Beverly:

Thank you for the information about researching in Brown County. I was just
about to post a message very much like Phillip's but he beat me to it <g>.

I have looked at all the Brown County records that are on microfilm but I
want to make sure that I'm not missing something that isn't on microfilm. I
will be coming from the west coast and have one day (maybe stretched to 1
1/2 days) as we drive eastward. I am very excited about finally being able
to do research in Georgetown.

If anyone on the list thinks of anything else that would help those of us
who will be coming from a long way away and who have limited time, we would
appreciate it if you could post that information here.

On the off-chance that someone on this list is also researching the same
families that I am, I am posting my families:

BUTT/Butts: Regnal N. Butt was b. ca 1794 in Maryland. He was likely another
son of the widow, Mary A. Butt, and her unknown husband. They were among the
earliest settlers in Adams/Brown County.

MANN: Jonas Mann and his wife, Agnes Williams, also settled first in
Bracken/Mason County, Kentucky and arrived early in Adams/Brown County.
Their daughter, Anna, married Regnal Butt.

McKENNEY/McKinney: William McKenney is of special interest to me. He was
reputedly a newspaper editor and a postmaster. He died before 1850 and I
have no idea what the names of his many children might have been. There were
quite a few in the 1830 and 1840 censuses. There was a Wm. McKinney whose
will was proved in 1831; but obviously not the same one who appeared in the
1840 census as a 70-80 yo.

If anyone has any information on any of these families, it would be very
helpful to me as I prepare for my trip.

Thank you.

Hello Phillip,
According to a pamphlet which I have, the hours for the Brown County
Genealogical Society in Georgetown, Ohio are 12-5 each Thursday and
Saturday. They are located in the "Old Jail" on the corner of Apple & Cherry
I could not find a phone #, but for special appointments and further
information you may call: Dorothy Helton 444-3521. We have also been to the
courthouse there in Georgetown where they have a lot of records and the
folks there were quite helpful. The courthouse is located in the "town
square".
Hope this helps and much success on your trip!
Sincerely,
Beverly
