Here are the references to Captain Boughman. The spelling is difficult to pin down due to the handwriting. It could be Broughman or Boughman.

Weather still fair. Have a pretty good trip to day. I could not get off at home to night as we are still without a Captain. We look for our new Captain Peter BOUGHMAN tomorrow.

Saturday, 9
Cloudy this morning with strong indications of rain. Left Maysville on time with a pretty fair Saturdays trip. Got in at half past 6. Our new Captain will not be on until Wednesday next. Went to the National with young Orlin.


Sunday, April 10, 1870
Showers most of the day Got up this morning very hoarse from cold settling in my throat. Mrs. Moody & Son called to see me this afternoon also Captain Morgan. Boat made$542.00 this week. Made a dividend of 10 per cent.

Monday, 11
Showers this morning. Trip light and reached Mays after 9 o’clock. No letter from home.

Tuesday, 12
Weather fair. Good trip. In at 8 P. M. The new captain came aboard this evening.

Wednesday, April 13, 1870
Weather warm and growing. Capt. BOUGHAM took charge this morning. Good trip and a late start. Reached Ripley at 8 P. M. I stopped to find all well. Paid a call of 125$ on Magnolia losses and recd a dividend of $150.00 from St. James.
