ROBERSON, BRYANT, GILCHRIST, FRAZEE, PHILLIPS (Reily Twp., p. 419)
James N. ROBERSON, M.D., of Reily, was born in Carthage, Hamilton Co.,
(OH), Sep 17, 1842. His father, Jonas ROBERSON, was born in NJ, emigrating
to OH in 1804 with his parents, and settling on Duck Creek, near
Cincinnati, (OH). He learned the plasterer's trade, which he followed till
1850, then being in mercantile & farming business until 1872, when he
retired. He died May 11, 1874. He was postmaster of Reily for eight years,
and preached as a local minister from 1870. He was the regular minister of
the Baptist Church in Reily two years prior to his death. He was an
earnest, zealous worker in the Church, & a truly Christian gentleman. He
was married Oct 6, 1826, to Nancy BRYANT, by whom he had six children,
James being the only surviving one. The mother died Mar 16, 1870. Dr.
ROBERSON attended Beach Grove Seminary of IN, four years, & read medicine
with Dr. GILCHRIST, of Reily, three years. He was graduated at the OH
Medical College, of Cincinnati, in 1862, at the age of twenty. In the Fall
of 1862 he entered the service as assistant surgeon, being at first with
the sanitary supply, & then in the army of the Cumberland. He resigned on
account of ill health in 1863; in May of that year beginning practice at
Fair Haven, Preble Co., (OH). In 1864 he was assistant surgeon in th 156th
OH National Guard, during its hundred-day service. In the Spring of 1865 he
removed to his present location, where he has conducted a successful
practice ever since. On Nov 29, 1862, he married Mary FRAZEE, dau/o J. W.
FRAZEE, & by her was the father of one child, Carrie Edna. His wife died
Nov 28, 1866, & he married Apr 4, 1870, Lizzie PHILLIPS, dau/o Joseph
PHILLIPS. They are the parents of two children, Edward P. & Georgie E. He
is a Master Mason of Oxford Lodge, No. 67, & is also a member of St.
Charles Lodge of Odd Fellows.
