Subject: [OHBUTLER-L] FREEMANs & FOWLERs who migrated to Marion Co. IN
Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 10:50:31 EST
I've been following the FOWLERS who were early settlers of Oxford Twp., Butler
Co. OH. The 1820 Census lists Jeremiah, James, & Benjamin FOWLER in that twp.
Benjamin FREEMAN m. Mary FOWLER July 17, 1822 in Butler Co. OH, according
to a book called EARLY MARRIAGE RECORDS OF BUTLER COUNTY, OHIO Vol. I
(1803-1823) (pub. by the DAR, I think).
The 1860 Census for Marion Co. IN, Warren Twp., has the following on p.
273:
Benjamin FREEMAN 60 NY farmer
Mary " 60 KY
Albert " 27 IN
Also on p. 273 is the family of Benjamin FOWLER 63 KY, incl. Elizabeth 59 OH,
Zachariah, 23 IN, Anderson, 22 IN, Elizabeth M. 27 IN, and Mary J. 23 IN.
Among the several FOWLERs who m. in Marion Co. IN in the late 1830's &
1840's, was my Hannah Ann FOWLER. Her p's, James (b. 1788 MD) & Elizabeth
FOWLER, came from & returned to Butler Co. OH. Her first 2 ch. were b. Warren
Twp., Marion Co. IN.
Several FREEMANs also m. in Marion Co. IN during that same period. They
included James, Lewis M., and Lorenzo FREEMAN, as well as Almira, Artilissa
J., Eliza, Harriet, Mary FREEMAN, and maybe the Margaret "FREEHAM" who m. Ira
Wood. I saw this data in the searchable database of pre-1850 IN marriages,
put on-line by the Indiana State Library Genealogy Section
(http:www.statelib.lib.in.us/WWW/INDIANA/GENEALOGY/genmenu.html).
