I am searching for information on and in order to contact the Mahala Ward
Phipps Griggs family that lived on Michigan Ave. in Middletown in the early
1900's. The four Phipps children of Henry Phipps and Mahala Ward are James
Thomas "Jim Tom" Phipps, Hodge Phipps, Lucy Phipps who married an Adams, and
Margaret Phipps. After Henry Phipps died in Pineville, Bell co, KY the
family moved to Middletown. Mahala Frances Ward Phipps married 2- Fieldan
Griggs of Middletown who died before 1929. Mahala died on Oct 17, 1929 in
Middletown. Lucy Phipps Adams was the informant on the death certificate,
and Mahala was buried in the Woodside cemetery. My grandmother, June Phipps
remembers these cousins well, and they used to visit her in Pineville.
Mahala's parents were James Ward and Mary Wilson of Pineville, Bell county,
KY. I believe Mahala was raised near the end of Simms Fork on the left fork
of Straight Creek at Ward Hollow.
I am descended from Henry Phipps's first family with Lucinda Evans of
Pineville, Bell county, KY. Their children are Didaima "Damy" Phipps who
married Frank Hendrickson, Millie Phipps who married Columbus Wilson,
Johnson "John" Gillis Phipps, Robert "Little Robin" Phipps who married Mary
Cox, and Henry Frank Phipps, Jr. who married Mary Eliza "Liza" Rice.
I would very much appreciate any information at all regarding this family.
Thanks! Connie Hoskins Williams
