Charles,
I don't have any direct information in regards to your request as posted. I
was intrigued by what I think may be an associated link. I have been
searching for many years for the father of my GG Grandfather James G. MARTIN
b Oct 10, 1810 in Butler Co., OH. there are several Martins who there at the
time who may or may not be his father. Without going into years of research
I find links to several as well as counter points in position to some facts.
First there are two John Martin's and one Jonathan L. MARTIN as possible
with an Isaac Martin as a possible uncle.
For several years I have thought that Jonathan was the father of my James
because I find James G. Martin's signature on several of the documents in
the estate packet, a son named James etc. There are many other connections
too but not to go into here. Biggest negative is that there is a very old
genealogy placing Jonathan as coming from a NJ family. Not directly from
Scotland. The plus is that this NJ Martin family did come from Scotland but
in the 1600's.
I think you should be interested in Jonathan L. Martin. First he was married
twice poss. three times. One of the sons is Alexander. Alexander's mother's
maiden name was COX. Another daughter by a different wife is Harriet. A
third daughter is Sarah V. Martin b after Jun 1813 its to bad for your
research that she is married to Francis J. Tytus, Aug. 1, 1831 and remains
married to him until she die's June 4, 1841.
My James G. Martin stated in the 1880 Census that his father was born in
Scotland and his mother in OH. He moves to Miami Co., and then to Darke
Co., OH. His second daughter he names Sarah E. Martin. When two of James
his great grand daughters get married in Darke Co., one marries a man called
COX and the other sister marries a man called HALL . Same family connections
from Butler Co., ?
Please let me know if you find any who live till the 1880 census and state a
Scotland connection. Does your Sarah live that long? Have you looked to see
where Sarah states her parents came from? What are her birth and death
dates? Please let me know if you find Levi or James MARTIN connection in PA.
My James names his first son Levi and has some association with a Levi
MARTIN in Miami Co., who came from PA. Perhaps James and Sarah were brother
and sister.
Richard E. Martin
