Hi David,

You can save the census image at Ancestry.com as a TIF file plus many others
-- right click on save as. As to indexes, you can search records by state
and usually find a state census to locate a relative in the census images but
not always easy. I find that saving the census as a SID file works the best
for me. I agree that the images are not always the best but better than
going to LDS church.
