Hi, I live in upstate New York, and I thought the article in the Cincinnati
Enquirer was interesting. Up here, our lawmakers are cutting our school
budgets. Supposedly because we have no money. Yet, we have a huge New York
State lotto program that brings in millions of dollars weekly. This money
was supposed to be used for education. However, the lawmakers use the
loopholes and use it for everything but. What do you want to bet, that if
the funds are taken away from the libraries, and libraries are closed, it
won't be long after that the politicians find enought money to give
themselves a raise _ AGAIN. Why is it, they can never find enough money for
libraries and schools, but they can always seem to find enough money to
raise their own salaries. I certainly wish I could raise MY own salary.
Libraries are important. If it wasn't for the hard work and diligence of a
lot of local libraries, a lot of our important history would be lost. Is
there anything we can do as individuals to stop this? I was born and raised
in Hamilton, Ohio and although I have lived in upstate New York for over 30
years, I still consider Ohio my "home". If this is allowed to happen in
Ohio, it won't be long before it will happen in every state. What will
happen to all the historical papers and other valuable information and items
stored in local libraries if this happens. What can we do to stop it?
