Larry
I believe that the old Armco badges for issued reflecting the department
that the person was employeed in. The first number indicated the department.
I am not certain that i have an old list of department numbers but I am
fairly certain that 7 was for a specific department. Everyone hiring into
that department had 7 for the first number. Later, the system changed with
the numbering become plant wide. I am certain that when i hired into Armco
(1965) their were a lot of people whose badge numbers were issued under the
old system.

7046 & 7001. They are older than my dad's and he was hired on in 1964.
