Hello.
This is very interesting. I am researching the HINKLE family and for
years have been attempting to obtain information concerning the
connection of the HINKLE and DICKEY families. I remember well the
HINKLE-DICKEY annual reunions held well into the 1950s. One of my
ancestors, Mary Louise HINKLE b. 4 Aug 1847 married George Sherer DICKEY
son of Samuel Miller DICKEY. According to the HINKLE genealogy by Junkin,
this marriage started the close relationship.
Several other close associations between the two families, however, also
existed.
(1) Lewis DICKEY born in about 1803 was living with the Squire
HINKLE family at the time of the 1850 census.
(2) ...when the sixteenth child, a son, of Joseph Hinkle and
Elizabeth DEBOLT HINKLE died at birth, they immediately adopted another
child as Charles Francis Dickey Hinkle who died at the age of twenty-one
and is buried as Dickey. About 1844 they again adopted a child this time
a daughter and the twin sister of Charles Francis, as Elizabeth JEWELL
HINKLE, who lived to maturity and had descendants.
These close encounters happened before the George Dickey/Mary Louise
Hinkle marriage. I'm trying to find the birth parents of the above
mentioned Lewis, Charles Francis, and Elizabeth Jewell, the reason that
they were adopted by the Hinkles and what interrelationship existed among
the Hinkle, Dickey and Jewell families
Bill
