I am researching the ancestry of Anna R. BROWN, née Rachel A. BROWN (ca.
1846 - 1919). I am having difficulty finding out about where her father,
John O. BROWN, came from (supposedly Massachusetts), who his parents were,
and what happened to him, his wife and children after 1860. Any leads,
additional information? I have put together what I do know below.

Child:
Rachel A. Brown, b. ca. 1846, who was living with Ephraim & Elizabeth
WOODRUFF in 1850, and with John O. Brown and his second wife in 1860.
I suspect that Rachel A. Woodruff may be dau. of Ephraim & Elizabeth
WOODRUFF.

her maternal grandparents (not yet fully established):
Ephraim & Elizabeth (possibly Betsey DIGBY) WOODRUFF (m. 1814? Butler Co.)
He was born in N.J. ca. 1893. They lived in Hanover Twp., Butler Co., Ohio
(census 1830, 1840, 1850).
He was a farmer and d. after the 1850 census. I did not find him in the 1860
census.
Elizabeth or Betsey was b. ca. 1796/7 in Kentucky or Ohio and d. after 1870.
I have one source that says her brother William was the founder of
Lafayette, Indiana in 1825. This William Digby (1802-1864) was born in
Kentucky. Elizabeth was living with her son Ephraim and his family in 1870.
Children b. Hanover Twp. (census records suggest they had as many as eight
children):
William D., 1821-1888
Ephraim L., b. 1829, m. Eliza and was living Hanover in 1870 with 3 ch: Dela
7, Charles 6, and Robert 4
Sarah J., b. ca. 1834
In the 1830 census, Ephraim is living with his wife and 7 children: a male
and a female both 15-20, two females 10-15, a male and a female 5-10, and a
male under 5. In the 1840 census, Ephraim is living with his wife, and 4
children: a male and female both 15-20, a male 5-10, and a female under 5.
In the 1850 census, Ephraim and Elizabeth are living with son E.L. [Ephraim
L.] age 22, Rachel A. Brown age 3, and Sarah J. Woodruff age 16.
