Subject: MYERS, MEYERS SURNAME

Hi!
I am working with another researcher attempting to locate information on a
Myers/Meyers/Myer/Meyer etal. family who lived in Sherrodsville, Carroll
County Ohio in the 1880's. The story as told to me by my Great Grandmother
goes like this:
Gramma, born Elizabeth Ann Myers in Sherrodsville, Carroll County on March
15, 1886/7 (no birth certificate has been found), always said she was born to
a "Mrs. Myers" and "an Indian". She said that she was the youngest of 8
children and that "the Indian" used to bring food to the family but then one
day disappeared and never came back. She said that her mother then
"remarried" a gentleman who did not want the responsibility of the children
by Mrs. Myers' first relationship and that she and her older siblings who
were too young to go out on their own were put up for adoption (probably
about 1890). She said she was placed in an orphanage and that her other
siblings were put in "the Canton Girls Home" and "the Canton Boys Home".
>From her description I thought possibly she was referring to The Fairmont
Children's Home but I saw their records and could find no mention of my
group. Anyway, Gramma was adopted (or indentured out) to a family by the
name of HISCOX and ended up being raised in Wadsworth, Medina County, Ohio.
Most of the information she was eventually told about her natural family was
told to her by "a neighbor" of her adoptive family - who as it turns out was
probably her adoptive aunt.
If my group ties in with the other researcher... it would appear that
Gramma's mother's name MAY have been Susan Elizabeth Meyers. Susan's
descendant's tell a story VERY SIMILAR to the one I just relayed above.
Susan supposedly had several children (born to an Indian) before placing her
children out of the home and marrying a gentleman by the name of Lawrence and
staring a new family. Born in 1860, Susan did not marry Lawrence and begin
having children with him until 1890 - which would also seems to support the
idea that she may have had a previous relationship. Susan came from and
ended up living in the Lorain County, Ohio area.
Another surname that may be connected to this story is EPPLER. Loring Eppler
was the other child born to Susan (that we know of) who claims Native
American heritage. (By the way - I saw a picture of him and he looks just
like my grandmother!)
If any of this sounds familiar or if you have ANY information that might lead
me in another direction I would love to hear from you!
Sorry for the long drawn out query and THANKS for any help! Good luck in
your own searches!
