Hi David and all,

Hope this helps someone. I research Ferguson and Groves so I did not follow
the other marriages of James White and Joseph Toalston. I do wish I could
find out where or when he died.

I have two references to Jarvis:

1. On the 1910 and 1920 census Fred Beadle (born 1901 in Carroll Co) is
boarding with James Jarvis. I have a note that James' obit stated that he
raised Fred who was the son of Edward and Margaret Seton Beadle.

2. James Calvin White (born 1846 probably Carroll Co) was first married to
Mary Ann Jarvis. She died in 1884 at the age of 27, leaving him with three
small children, Myrtle, Anna May (later Mrs. George Snively) and John Jarvis
White. James married a second time to Sarah Matilda Ferguson, who also had
three small children, and they had three more children.

I have this on a Toalston family:

1 - William Toalson
sp- Elisabeth
2 - Joseph Toalston
Born - 1853 Norristown, Carroll Co, Ohio
Note - There are tombstones for children of J. and A. Toalston and
for J. and E. F.
Toalston in the Glade Run Cemetery. Joseph, age 27,
carpenter, and family are
living in East Twp, Carroll Co in 1880. He was living with
his parents in East
Twp., Carroll Co. in 1870.
I found a marriage for Joseph Toalston and Mrs. Emma F.
Grimes, 19 Dec 1887 in
the Carroll Chronicle. She was Emma Stockman Grimes. Emma
had two children,
Irwin and Lawson Grimes. Then Joe and Emma had Olive,
Howard, William, Wilma
and Elnora. They were living in Canton in 1910. He was
Joseph Toalston of
Salineville in 1937.
sp- Arnetta (Nettie) Shaw
Born - 22 Feb 1855 Ohio
Mar. - 11 Oct 1877
Died - 28 Jun 1887
Dau of Nathan L. Shaw & Sarah J. Groves
Note - 'Arenettie' is buried at Glade Run Cemetery, Carroll Co.
3 - Infant Son Toalston
Died - 6 Sep 1878
Note - Buried at Glade Run Cemetery.
3 - Infant Daughter Toalston
Born - 6 Sep 1878
Died - 6 Sep 1878
Note - Buried at Glade Run Cemetery.
3 - Gilbert E. Toalston
Born - 31 Dec 1879 Norristown, Carroll Co, Ohio
Died - 3 Oct 1937 Alliance, Stark Co, Ohio
Note - Gilbert is 6/12, born December, on the 1880 census.
Birth/Death: !DC 37/65418, with daughter Wanda Smith as
informant, at OHS.
!Obit: Alliance Review, October 4, 1937. He is buried
at Fairmont.
sp- Laura Olive Withrow
Born - 2 Dec 1880 Fox Twp, Carroll Co, Ohio
Died - 29 Apr 1953 Alliance, Stark Co, Ohio
Dau of Henry M. Withrow & Mary C. Swaney
Note - Ollie was 39 in 1920.
!Obit: Alliance Review, April 30, 1953. She is buried
at Fairmont Cemetery.
3 - Elsie L. Tolson
Born - Nov 1884 Ohio
Died - 6 Feb 1920 Franklin Twp, Columbiana Co, Ohio
Note - !DC 20/08637 with Mary Philpot as informant. She is
buried at Woodland
Cemetery.
The 1900 census gives her birth as Nov 1883. Her
tombstone says 1884-1920. Elsie
is 36 on the 1920 census. Her surname is Tolson or
Toalson on many papers, but
the census has her father listed at Toalston.
sp- John William Philpot Sr.
Born - 29 Jun 1884 Fox Twp, Carroll Co, Ohio
Mar. - 28 Dec 1904 Carroll Co, Ohio
Died - 14 Apr 1936 Salineville, Columbiana Co, Ohio
Son of Joseph S. Philpot & Mary Etta Wilson
Note - John was living in Salineville at the time of his
mothers death and was the
informant on her death certificate.
John and family are living in Carroll Co in 1910 and
Columbiana Co in 1920.
His death certificate gives his birth as June 18.
!DC 36/22720 with Lavern Notman of Salineville as
informant. He is buried at
Woodland Cemetery with Elsie and Verna where the
tombstone says John William.
Marcia has his name as John Wilson.
Could his birth have been June 28, 1882?
3 - Lawrence L. Toalston
Born - 23 Mar 1886 East Twp, Carroll Co, Ohio
Died - 15 Apr 1959 Carrollton, Carroll Co, Ohio
Note - Lorance was living in Canton in 1910.
!Obit: Carroll Journal, April 16, 1959. He is buried at
Westview in
Salineville.
sp- Olive Leona Cummings
Born - 1 Mar 1888 Fox Twp, Carroll Co, Ohio
Mar. - 27 Jan 1910
Died - 20 Aug 1974 Minerva, Stark Co, Ohio
Dau of Franklin J. Cummings & Melinda Jay Ray
Note - Olive is 22 in 1910.
Birth/Death: !Obit: Carrollton FPS, August 22, 1974.
She is buried at Westview
Cemetery. Olive was also survived by two grandchildren
and five great
grandchildren.
2 - Sarah E. Toalston
Born - Sep 1861 Carroll Co, Ohio
Died - 23 Sep 1904 Alliance, Stark Co, Ohio
Note - She was eight years old, living with her parents in East
Twp., Carroll Co. in
1870.
!Obit: Alliance Review, September 24, 1904. She is buried
at the Alliance City
Cemetery.

Born - 25 Jun 1857 Carroll Co, Ohio
Mar. - 16 Sep 1879 Carroll Co, Ohio
Died - 14 Dec 1932 Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, California
Son of Nathan L. Shaw & Sarah J. Groves
Note - Of Canton
Josiah and Sarah are living next to his parents in
Washington Twp, Carroll
Co in 1880. A Harry Stephens, age 15, no relationship given
is living
with them. Josiah was four on the 1860 census.
On his wedding tour with second wife Mary in 1905.

by a wife named
Bernice.
3 - Belva I. Shaw
Born - Mar 1881
Died - 14 Nov 1972 Canton, Stark Co, Ohio
Note - Of Canton in 1932, she was a widow in 1962.
