You tradition is printed in Evert's 1880 history of Clermont. To me ,it's
not quite clear. Certainly the church of the THOMPSON'S AND FAIRFIELD'S
personal choice,in a newer building, is the Church of Christ on the north
side of RT 125 a bit east of RT 132North. AND A BIT FURTHER East of
Amelia,in Batavia township, but feet from MONROE and Pierce township. The
present church is built if front of an older family cemetary on the
Michael Rosebury FARM. Alexander Thompson lived on the east side of RT
NORTH a couple miles. If using the Clermont Co marriage book 1800-50
marriages by Thomas Shelton-Elder are from this church, while his
marriages as J.P. are a couple mile east near Bantam.. Thomas Shelton,
Elder and Alexander THOMPSON'S SON MOVED TO FIVE MILE, N BROWN CO OH to
minister a church,.Thompson's son then moved near the YANKEETOWN mAINE
SETTLEMENT ON RT 125 EAST OF bETHEL. Last night I watched a tv show
on Maine lighthouses filmed in part,at WELLS AND YORK,down-east maine
where our colony came from. Interiew a handson Mr Thomson.
WITHAM,BENNETT,BRAGDON,BRADBURY,,,, DOANE,TIBBETTS THOMPSON,MFAIRCHILD,
COOMBS, TEMPLE, RUMERY,,ROUNDS,MANNING,GOULD, DORRAL,,, DALIE, are some
of the Maine people who settled at 1st Withamsville; 2nd Yankeetown, and
3rd 1812 LINDALE-HAMLET-AMELIA. Mostly BAPTISTS. Morman missionaries made
conerts here in th 1830's who used that church, before moving to
Nauoo,ILL,and then SALT LAKE cITY . PROVO UTAH was 1st settled by Isaac
Higbee,Jr,of that church building. Mot of the Maine colony were Bapist.
Alexander THOMPSON became "NEW LIGHT"=CHURCH OF CHRIST=CAMPBELLITE
CHRISTIAN here. If anybody has special knowledge of the churches
records,m it would be it's former minister,REV CARL ELMER ELY,of
Williamsburg,Oh ,who also helped save OLD BETHEL METHODIST in East Fork
State Park a mile north of Bantam. [RETIRED] Hermon Brown Fagley ,
