Dorothy - yes, I am out here.

What you have located is a marriage bond, a legal document which
apparently was required back in those days by the Kentucky law as
a condition to getting a marriage license. Right, Hermon? Bonds
are still used these days for a variety of purposes, in order to
guarantee performance of an obligation.
