Subject: Re: Settlers, New Jersey to Clermont County, then IN or IL
Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 20:50:37 -0000

I was just commenting on a common thread that I noticed about the Early
Settlers in Clermont County. Has anyone noticed it seems an inordinant
amount of early settlers in Clermont came from New Jersey. Also, an
inordinant amount of their children went on to Indiana, it seems that
somewhat fewer went to Illinois. I wish I could find more commentary in
some book on this commonality. I wonder what state was the one that gave
the most early settlers to Clermont.

: Hello Everyone,
:
: I know I'm a bit late on replying to the WOOD correspondences, but have
been
: on vacation and am just now getting caught up. The following is the WOOD
: family that I have been trying to trace......
:
: Abraham WOOD married Mrs. Nancy BOLIN in Clermont Co, OH on Sept. 15,
1807.
: They had migrated to Harrison Co, IN by 1812, where Nancy's daughter,
: Barbary Bolin, married Samuel PAVEY. (Samuel Pavey was a brother to my
: ancestor, Anderson Pavey.)
:
: The Paveys and the Woods were living in Washington Co, IN (1820 census)
: where Abraham applied for his Rev. War pension dated 10/12/1819 (aged 61
: yrs... b:ca 1758) In the appl. he gave no birthdate nor place (but later
: said to be PA.) He'd enlisted near Baptistown, N.J. on 2/8/1776.
Abraham
: Wood died in Wash. Co, IN, on or about Dec. 25, 1839.
:
: He had, apparently, been married previously and had a daughter, Nancy,
who
: md: Robert GUY in Wash. Co, IN. on Dec. 2, 1819 (Robert Guy b: ca. 1798.)
: Abraham was also a good deal older than his wife Mrs. Nancy Bolin, as she
: was born ca: 1775...I am wondering now if maybe he didn't leave his older
: children in Clermont Co?? Both Nancy (Wood) Guy and Barbary (Bolin)
Pavey
: were at the 1807 wedding in Clermont Co.
:
: I believe that this Abraham Wood had a brother, John WOOD, and they were
: sons (among others) of Judge Joseph Wood (of Frederick Co, MD) and wife,
: Catherine JULIAN, and they were both living in Warren Co, KY on the 1800
: census. John Wood migrated directly from Kentucky to Wabash Co, IL.,
where
: he died.
:
: I have a wealth of information on Judge Joseph Wood's family and
: descendants, but am trying to prove that the Clermont Abraham Wood is the
: correct one (supposedly, Judge Joseph's son, Abraham, was b: 2/7/1753.)
: Due to the arguing over the borders between DE, MD, PA in the 1700's, the
: locale could work out. Abraham is also the only child of Joseph &
Catherine
: Woods that no one has ever had any information on.
:
: Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Can anyone help solve this
: puzzle?
:
: Thank you.
