Group, it appears that we have just run across family data for the same
family group in two different family bibles. We are not, at this time, able
to compare the handwriting, but let us assume they are the same.
In the 1790s, present Atlantic Co., NJ, we have a Joseph and Rebecca Dole
Family. They have a previous family bible started in 1712, in which they
record the births, deaths and marriages of those that have the bible. It
appears that the same information was posted to another bible that took a
separate family tree line.
Was it the custom for each new family to start a new bible for that family
group? If this was the case, was the second generation posted in a new bible
as well as the parents bible?
Now a different, but related question. The main family bible was taken in
1805 to Clermont Co., OH with the Joseph1766 (only male of these parents) and
Rebecca Dole family. It then went with son Joseph1791 (second male born and
living into adulthood) to Jefferson Co., IA in 1848 and that last entry is
for Joseph1791 and Peggy Baum Dole's son Jonathan Oscar Dole, b. Jan 9, 1848.
The bible stayed in Fairfield, Jefferson Co., IA for many years without any
more entries. Why would a family stop recording entries?
