Subject: [OHCLER] Marriage License Question
Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 13:31:05 EDT
In the 1870's in Ohio, was it required to be proven that two people were no
closer than second cousins before marriage?
>From Clermont Co. Probate Court, 1871, I have a sworn statement that Adolphus
PETERSON and Mary Elizabeth EVERHART were not nearer of kin than second
cousins. This statement is at the top of this marriage license form.
I'm wondering if this was required for everyone, or if this indicates that
Adolphus and Mary are indeed cousins.
Thanks,
Cindy
