I have just joined this list in hope of finding another list member who
may have some connection to the Smiths that I am researching and are
willing to exchange information. I would also be most grateful to any
list member who would be generous enough to check their Ohio resources
for any information regarding my Smith family.

This is what I have documented so far through various census documents,
cemetery & death records, lookup volunteers and the help of Ms.
Shiveley at the Clermont County Public Library genealogy services (and
gleaned from online family postings)...

*SMITH, Charles M. b. abt. 1816 in PA d. after 1878
married first wife in 1837 Clermont Co. Ohio --
*Rebecca MOORE/GRANT b.abt. 1807 died abt. 1849 Clermont Co.- widow of
Joseph Grant and d/o Charles Moore & Mary Coates (d/o Lindsay & 1st wife
Ruth Hughes)
children from that marriage all born in Ohio
*Henderson C. Smith b. 1838
*Collin C. Smith b. 1840
*Thomas L. Smith b. 1842
*Lindsay C. Smith b. 1844
*Mary E. Smith b. 1846
married his second wife before 1850 likely in Ohio --
* Adeline O'CONNOR b. 1824 in Ohio - died 1878 in D.C.
children from that marriage all born in Ohio --
*Charles M. Smith b. 1855 - died 1878 in D.C.
*James Smith b. 1859 - died in 1942 in D.C.
*Albert Smith b. 1863 - date of death unknown but after 1880

According to the book "History of Clermont County, Ohio" (information
offered by Ms. P. Shiveley at the Clermont Co. Library) Charles M. Smith
appears to have been a teacher, County Auditor, Batavia Twp. Trustee,
Mayor and member of Batavia Lodge No. 109, F. & A.M.

Some websites state that Charles M. Smith was born 2/29/1816 in
Montgomery Co. PA (and that his middle name was Moore) - parents listed
as Nathaniel Smith & Rachel Coates (d/o Lindsay Coates & 2nd wife Rachel
Holstein) - but they offer no documentation or sources and search as I
might I have been unable to find any.
