Hermon Brown Fagley here writing from the former Fagley's Fruit
Farm,which was mostly
on the 540 acres Jesse Justice bought in 1805. [Son Savil Justice's]. I
walk the berm of St Rt 125 west of Bethel
for needed exercise. Towards dusk last night,I wa in the yard of Robert
and Nancy Anderson Justice's
frame [Quehl's saltbox. Could be Rev Jesse Justice built it before his
1826 death. I was near the spring of water
that made Jesse select that acre,of his 540,for his 1805 log cabin. This
dawn ,I was also in front of it,and
reversed myself ,past home [Savil Justice's ] to the 1818 2 story brick
built by Savil Wilson,Jr, bro-in-law
of Rev Jesse Justice. [Loudon's-Ed Harris-Cliff Justice-Mahlon Wilson's.
] Often I walk to the next place-the turkey farm that was Joseph M
Justice's til he was killed at Missionary Ridge,in 1863 .[different house
today -Harris] .and I
continue west to a modern brick ranch,of Mark Harris, son of Robert
Justice Harris. By then we are nearing or on the
Wm Penn Justice 100 acres on the east sde of South Bantam RD,OR 1 1\2
MILES west of Jesse-Robert's [and later
Wm Penn Justice. The latter had a 3rd farm, from his wife. It's the Rev
James Armstrong farm, and it adjoins the
[Mahlon Wilson-Ed Harris-Loudoun] farm on the north [Mattox farm.]
Today, one man farms both the latter two farms, and has cut a wide path
thru the line fence,so I
can see deer grazing on the old Armstrong farm [old house gone]
I met Clare McCall in the 1944 era, when he worked on Jave . 'The Dutch
Dollar man,I called him,for a gift.
And I met Clare McCall in the 1990's when he visited my bed-fast Mom from
N.H.[?].
And sometime inbetween. I have a copy of his McCall book.
Rev Jesse died in 1826,but Old Bethel Methodist church, built 1817 still
stands a mile
north of Bantam. Rev James Armstrong preached there;Jesse Justice
preached there: Carl Ely preached there.
It is 5 miles west of the village of Bethel,Ohio .The 1st two are buried
there.
