Dear Norma, and "interested" parties: Thank you. I wish I could help. As I said, my interest was in the Custers, or others, that married into my "Bhymer", Short, etc, lines; this other split off of Custers was only for historical purposes.
I had also ran into that part of the Custers, often, as I pursued that part of my McAfee line that had went from Penn to Harrison Co Ohio, a little later, than the main McAfee part that went straight from Penn to Hamilton Co Ohio earlier (then jumped into Indiana territory 1808). No this is not the McAfee line that went from eastern Penn to south and ended up in what would be Ky/and Ky, as some of them did later come back up to Clermont Co Ohio, and Ind Terr.
From what I found, without doing a concentrated/extensive research effort on Custers, these Clermont Co Custers came from Paul Custer, down to John Custer (died 1812) and Elizabeth (indicated "Hauser") (died 1829). They, in turn, had Emanuel and Christian, plus Elizabeth, Susanna, Rachel, Mary, Sarah, and Paul. Christian married Catherine Betchelhimer (of Clermont Co Pioneer Joseph and Christina (Lazena) Betchelhimer). Mary would marry John Kessler, and their daughter, Elizabeth would marry Nathaniel Burkett (and they would have a son, Henry, who married Mary Short, daughter of Nancy (Betchelhimer, of Joseph/Christina) Short who married John Short Jr, of Clermont Co Pioneer John and Mary ( ? ) Short Sr. One of Henry's sisters, Rachel, married Samuel H. Betchelhimer (of Joseph/Christina). One of Christian and Catherine's daughters, Elizabeth, married Ephriam Short, another son of John and Mary ( ? ) Short Sr. Another of Catherine (Betchelhime!
r)
Custer's brothers, Jesse, would marry his cousin, Lydia Beckelhimer (of Joseph's older brother, John). Then to "help" the situation, my Great Great Great Grandma Margaret Short (1802-1866), of Clermont Co Pioneers John and Mary ( ? ) Short Sr, decided to marry my 3rd Great Grandpa John Abraham Beckelhymer (1797-1880), of Clermont Co Pioneers Joseph and Christina (Lazena) Betchelhimer. Of course, these are not the only Custer/Short/"Bhymer"/ETC intermarriages, etc, Clermont Co area. These Custers, and Kesslers, and others named,in part or all, lived in several areas of Clermont Co, eastern and northern Hamilton Co, as well as Butler and Montgomery Counties.
I hope you, and everyone, finds answers to their "questions" still up in the air on their Custers, Shorts, Beckelhymers, Kesslers, and all the other surnames.
Take care. Regards, Dick
