I think this information is a mixing of a couple of Stephen Bennet's. I'll
break down what I think is correct:
My Stephen Bennett married Margaret Rardin 8 Apr. 1841. She was a widower
and her maiden name is Mitchell and she was born 15 December 1796 in
Kentucky. She married John Rardin 28 June 1815 in Campbell Co., KY. John
Rardin died 29 November 1836 in Indiana.
My Stephen Nathaniel Bennett's mother died when he was born and according to
what I can find he was born about 1830. Given Sarah's death date of 10
September 1830, she could be my Stephen Nathaniel's mother. Stephen
Nathaniel's daughter doesn't mention any other wives except for Stephen N's
mother and Margaret Rardin.
My Stephen Nathaniel Bennett married Eliza Jane Curless 20 November 1856.
According to Stephen N.'s daughter, his father Stephen gave him 80 Acres as
a wedding gift. What is the date that the 80 acres had titled changed from
Stephen to Stephen N.?
Given my information, I believe that the 1850 Clermont Co., OH Census entry
is indeed my Stephen Bennett and wife Margaret Mitchell Rardin Bennett.
The autobiography of Stephen Nathaniel Bennett's daughter states that her
grandfather was born on Irish soil. Her autobiography states:
"Grandfather Bennett was born in Ireland. I know nothing of my grandparents
except this brief fact, that father's father was born on Irish soil. After
he and Grandmother--whose birthplace I know nothing of--came to the United
States, they owned three hundred and twenty acres near Cincinnati, Ohio,
where my father (Stephen Nathaniel Bennett) was born. Grandmother died when
father was born. Grandfather was married the second time to a Mrs. Raredon,
mother of two sons. One was a Union Pacific agent.
My father wandered away from his father's home when a youth but returned
to Cincinnati, Ohio, when he was quite a young man.
Grandfather brought about the acquaintance of father and Eliza Jane
Curless, a very sweet girl who was versed in the arts, not only in the art
of homemaking but the art of putting beautiful colors of nature on canvas in
such a way that one could feel so near the Creator.
Father and Mother were married in Cincinnati, Ohio. Grandfather gave them
eighty acres near Springfield, Ohio for a wedding present. I was born August
13, 1859 in Springfield, Ohio. I have one sister, Ida, born on the eightty
acres in Miami County. She and I went to school from the eighty acres to
Concinnati."
The last mention she makes of her father is this:
"My father sold the eighty acres in Ohio and went to Sedalia, Missouri. We
lived there for four years, later taking homestead in Kansas near Towanda."
The rest of her autobiography is centered on her meeting her future husband
and the travels that her husband and her had.
So far I have been able to prove most everything that she has written,
except some of the dates are a little off, but just by a year or two.
I hope that someone out there has even more proof towards clearing up my
ancestors Stephen Bennett and his son Stephen Nathaniel.
Thanks all for your help so far,
JB

family
My Stephen Bennett is the son of Patrick Bennett born near
Bellfast...Stephen was supposed to have been born in Ireland but Patrick was
in and owned
property in Penna. Washington Twp in 1782 Some sort of error here ?
Clermont Co. marriage records Stephen first married Rachel Armstrong Dec.28
1835 Second married Margaret Rarlin Apr. .8 , 1841
In Laurel Cemetery Monroe Twp.--Found in July of 1977 -- Rachel D. Bennett
July 6 1838 38 years 6 months wife of Stephen
Also - Sarah L Bennett Sept.10 1830 33 years 10 months 18 days wife of
Stephen
Stephen's stone says Dec.,.3 1864 82 years ( born 1782 ? ) husband of Sarah
& Rachel
Census of 1850 Clermont Co pg 28 Stephen Bennett Farmer $ 9,366 born Ireland
, Margaret 55 Kentucky
Some confusion about son Stephen Was this the Stephen N . Bennett that had
80
acres with title changed from Stephen Bennett to Stephen N. Bennett ?
Is this the same Stephen that worked as an Express Agent that I have found
in
Kansas ? with 3 different wife's ? Does this help explain why he (Stephen)
did not complete his administration duties for his fathers will and how
Jesse
Bennett another son wound up signing the court closure papers for Patrick's
will
?
