Hi

Can anyone tell me how many dollars an immigrant would get for an English
sovereign on landing in New York in 1852? I am an English local historian
writing a book based on letters written to an immigrant who was in
Nicholsville before moving on to Indiana and this is one of the questions
in the first letter. As I only have a one sided correspondence I don't
know the answer and hope that someone out there can help.
