While we are on the subject of Ohio Church records I was wondering if
anyone has any suggestions to solve a problem I have....

Several years ago I discovered that Charles M. Smith, widower, residing
in Clermont Co. Ohio is supposed to have remarried to Adeline O'Conner
in 1849 Butler Co. Ohio - the marriage being performed by Rev. Arthur W.
Elliott (Methodist Minister). Note - a number of O'Conner marriages
are said to have taken place in Butler Co. OH.

I contacted the "Methodist Archives at Ohio Wesleyan University" and was
advised to call the First United Methodist Church, 225 Ludlow Street,
Hamilton, Ohio since any records would be housed there since it is an
active church. I telephoned the phone number provided by the archivist
and spoke to a very helpful secretary at the church who warned me that
there had been a fire in 1920 and there is no guarantee that the records
I am looking for had survived. She also explained that the records that
did survive are kept in an unused part of the building in no particular
order and the only one who might be able to offer any help would be the
church historian.

I wrote to the name and address provided but never received a reply.
If I remember correctly the secretary had warned me that the church
historian might decide that the request was unanswerable for any number
of reasons.

I'd love to get a copy of the marriage record of Charles M. Smith &
Adeline O'Conner, along with the other family records that might be
housed at that church but am not quite sure how to go about it. I have
the impression that those records have not been reproduced and archived
at any of the "regular sources" (libraries, historical & genealogical
societies).

Thanks for any help or direction you are able to offer,
Susan McIntyre
