Hi,

If there are any Carpenters, that are related to my Isaac and Mercy and see this messege please contact me.

I am connected to Isaac Carpenter of Clinton Co. Ohio.

Jean.

I think that your Isaac Carpenter may have been from Licking Co OHIO. At least I know that there was a an Isaac there in the early 1800's. I will give some information on the Clinton Co, OH. Isaac and you should check out the Licking Co Isaac and other Carpetners there as well.

My Isaac came to Clinton Co in 1815 with his wife, Mercy Frost and 3 sons, 3 daughters, His brother Jacob, his Wife Elizabeth and Jacobs 2 daughters from previous marriage. Jacob and Elizabeth had 2 sons but both died before becoming adults.

The children of Isaac and Mercy were Ezra, born abt 1803, Lydia born abt 1804, Calvin b abt 1807 Esther born Sept 1809 (my 2nd gr-grandmother,) Walter Totten born 1/1/1811 and died when he was 99 years old. Sarah born 1813.

Esther Married Dean King 1828. Esther died July 1889, they had 9 children.

Walter Totten Carpetner married Susan Mabee and had 2 daughters and 2 sons, one son died young. Charles Carpenter married and had children.

Calvin died at abt 45 years old and I think Ezra was about 50. Lydia died pretty young and I don't know about Sarah.

My Isaac was the son of Abraham and Lydia Totten Carpenter. Abraham and Lydia were the parents of 8 or 9 sons and 3 daughters. They lived in NY State. Isaac and Mercy frost Carpenter lived for quite some time around Duanesberg, on a small farm. acrosss the river. Mercy may have beeen the daughter of Obadiah and Hannah Underhill Frost. Mercy and Isaac were married at a Quaker Ceremony in 1800. Mercy died in 1816 in Clinton Co. Ohio. I don't know where she is buried but I presume she is buried as is Isaac at Center Quaker Cemetary in Clinton. His brother, Jacob and Abraham are also buried at Center. Abraham moved to Clinton in 1832 with his wife, Anna and grown son Nathaniel, and his wife and grandson. Abraham died abt 1838, I think, and then eventually his widow, and son Nathaniel and family ended up in Indianapolis.

I am pretty sure that Isaac lived across the road from the cemetary. At one time he owned over 100 acres, and in 1832 he made the bricks from his soil, kilned the bricks and built a small cottage that still stands on the land across from the cemetary, if you go there it is in the far corner of the corner lot, but you can see it from the cemetery. I walked back about 3/4's of the way to the house a year ago and it looks to be in excellant condition. To think this was built by hand 167 years ago. Totally amazing. Isaac died in 1836, Just before he died he moved in with his daugther, Sarah and her family.

He didn't leave anything to a John Carpenter in his will. The executors of the will were Dean King and Walter Totten Carpenter.

L. Jean, good luck with your search and If I am wrong and this is also your Isaac, please let me know.

Also Earlham College in Richmond Indiana have a lot of history on this Carpenter family as Walter Totten Carpenter was Supertendent of the Earlham Quaker Boarding School before it became Earlham College. He also was a trustee of Earlham College for many years.
The College honored Walter T. and his wife Susan by naming a beautiful Building "Carpenter Hall"
