Hello,

I am a new member of OGS doing serious research on an old log house located off Buck Rd. The mailing address is Alliance, OH, but the physical address is really in Columbiana Co. I am interested in both the Salem based and Canton based groups since Salem recommended it. They fear they won't have as much information as may be found in Alliance.

Through some months of research we have finally put together most of the information we needed. Unfortunately there is still one important link that we need to find and that is why I am writing to you.

The land where our log house sits was purchased by a Quaker named "Thomas Stanley and Judith, his wife" through a pattent of Thomas Jefferson, President apparently in 1807, and according to quaker records he moved with his second wife "Priscilla Ladd" to Knox Township (to their/our land) in 1812. We are trying to locate the ORIGINAL PATTENT from Jefferson. Lisbon says they don't have it. Steubenville says they don't have it. There is a web site but, it shows only 1820's and up.

Do you know what we can do to locate those early days government land pattents????

I would be very grateful for any possible suggestions you can offer in this matter. We don't actually live in Ohio yet.
