Hello,
I was reading the "History of the Republican Party in Ohio", page 60, they put a biography of Lot Wright, the probate judge of Warren Co OH. It seems the interview with him was about 1894.

Here is what they give for Judge Wright, which must have come from his own description of his ancestry:

Lot Wright b. 2-16-1839 New New Garden, Hanover twsp, Columbiana Co OH.
Father: James Wright, born in OH
Mother: Mary Hinchman, b. NJ

It goes on to say that the Father of James Wright was Joseph Wright , married to Rebecca, and haviong come to settle at Salem, OH about 1800, having come from Virginia, and were Quakers.

It also says that Joseph Wright was a Vet from the War of 1812.

I am interested in the name Joseph Wright of Salem, OH because that was the man who raised my own ancestor James W. Leach b. 1802-4 MD, but as of 1809 in Salem, OH.

I do have information on a Joseph Wright who was Quaker, who came to Salem among the first settlers from Bedford Co VA, having come thru PA on the trip over. His son was also Joseph Wright, married to Sarah Edgar, and both father and son setled in Salem, OH.

But the problem is this: this man named James Wright does not appear to connect to either Joseph Wright Sr or JR, who lived at Salem, O among the first settlers.

There is something strange about this interview/biography in the history book, I am thinking that Lot Wright has given his ancestry wrong, that he does NOT connect back to Joseph Wright of Salem, OH. Perhaps he was not aware of his own ancestry, but have heard the name Joseph Wright spoken of about Salem, OH??? I have no idea.

Is there anyone working on the Wright families who might be able to discuss this?

I am trying to determine the correct Joseph Wright who raised my ancestor. There was Joseph Wright, Sr a Quaker of Salem, OH, there was Joseph Wright, Jr. who had married out of the Quaker faith and was a Baptist at Salem, OH, and there was the above James Wright, who may be the son of another 3rd Joseph Wright, of Salem?

Best regards,
Lilly Martin
