Subject: PAINTER family of Salem, OH

Hello,
I have noticed the name PAINTER is among the very first settlers to Salem, OH. The history books say they are from Virginia.
I think they are from Bedford Co VA where there was a very well established Quaker community. The Joseph Wright family were also from Bedford Co VA and they arrived in 1803 at Salem, OH.
The Painter family and the Wright family could have been neighbors and travel companions from Va to OH.
I am NOT researching the PAINTER name, but happened to come across information on them because I study Nelson Co and Amherst Co VA and Bedford Co VA is next door and I came across so many Painter families there, in fact they have a mountain there called Painter's Mountain, for that family line.
I also noticed on the Quaker-Roots-L mailing list, that the Painter family of PA was discussed. I think the Bedford Co VA Painter family probably goes back to PA, as many of the VA settlers took the Great Wagon Road which started in PA and took then to West Central Va to settle.
Hope this helps someone with the Painter family research.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
