One of the major reasons was the availability of cheap land available to be
purchased on liberal credit terms from the Federal Govm't. The Auditor of
State's land office records were transfered to the Ohio Historical Society
in Columbus. Many of the lists of names of purchasers have been
published...several by BERRY...one by CLARK (Chillicothe Land office)and at
least one by C.W. BELL.

Each county had at least one "History" published late 1800's to early
1900's. You might check those for information. Many included historical
information on the formation of the counties as well as each township.
Biographical articles were included (but a fee may have had to be paid to
have the articles included)
DRAPER manuscripts might also be a source. Some are available on microfilm.

Some of these have been published...check at your local genealogy library or
Family History Center or inter-library loan.
(You didn't give your location so can't recommend any specific library)

county histories should help you here....Several counties have published
atlases or plat maps.

Will be looking forward to it!
